Bread, Rolls and Biscuits


Apple Fritters

 1 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

¼ teaspoon ground cloves

1 cup finely chopped Granny Smith Apples or Honey Crisp Apples

1/2 cup milk

1 large egg, beaten

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Vegetable Oil for frying

½ cup powdered sugar


Heat the vegetable oil in a fryer, or a large, deep pan over medium heat to 350 degrees.


In large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves until well blended. Add in apples and stir well.


In separate bowl, mix together milk, egg and butter.  Add to dry ingredients and mix until just moistened.


Drop by ¼ cupfuls into hot oil.  Fry for 2- 3 minutes, turning over half way thru, or until golden brown.


Place on paper towels to drain.  Toss or sprinkle with powdered sugar.
