Mulled Wine


2 bottles (750 ml) dry red wine (cabernet, shiraz or zinfandel)
1 cup sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole cloves
6 slices fresh ginger, peeled
3 whole star anise
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
Peel from 1 orange (no white)
1 lemon, thinly sliced
1 Granny Smith apple, cored and thinly sliced
1 orange, thinly sliced
Orange juice from peeled orange

Mix all ingredients in slow cooker, heat on high for 2 ½ - 3 hours or on low for 5 – 6 hours.

Serve in heat proof cups or mugs.
